Battle of Britain Memorial - The Aftermath of Your Bright Beings

We’re not fitted for this kind of light / We wandered so long, but we’ve been misled

A three-piece screamo/post-rock (think Envy, Quiet Steps) outfit from France, Battle of Britain Memorial this year released their debut album The Aftermath of Your Bright Being (for free, nonetheless), which according to the band is “a concept-album about the decay of the human being through the eyes of a witness, doing an introspection about its own nature, until the irrevocable fall and the final destruction.”

The presence of such big ideas is unmistakable; this music is dramatic, almost grandiose – it really sounds like the soundtrack to some unexplained global apocalypse. Angry, desperate, pleading vocal sections are side by side with calm, reflective stretches of whispers and subtle instrumentation, almost like the listener is passing through the eye of the storm. If you listen to music in this vein, you probably have heard similar ground tread before: but Battle of Britain Memorial are very good at what they do.

  1. Welcome to Rapture
  2. Metaphysics of the Lighthouse
  3. Those Who Hide Their Plight
  4. Cum Tacent Clamant
  5. Midnight Blue
  6. The Fall
