Shoppers – Silver Year (2011)

Shoppers - Silver Year

I was sleeping, I was always sleeping / you were watching, you were breathing, you were watching

Based in Syracuse, the female-fronted Shoppers make loud, dark, noisy, frantic punk rock, with aggressively thudding rhythm sections drudging forward to the next furious, fast-paced assault of vocal and guitar combo. Silver Year, if imagined in the right light, is almost a shoegaze release; there’s a lot of reverb fuzz bouncing around and encompassing the listener, and you’re only snapped back into punk mode by the angry, piercing vocals.

This is a really tight album, even if you’re not into punk or noise rock so much, if you enjoy more in-your-face shoegaze like A Place to Bury Strangers, this will be right up your alley. It’s one of my favorite punk releases of 2011 for sure.
